Following on from the successful memorial service in April 2013 to commemorate the start of the 70th Anniversary of Exercise Tiger, the practice landings and the mass evacuation of the Slapton Sands area the Exercise Tiger Remembered team are planning another ceremony in 2014.
On 28th April 2014 it will be exactly 70 years since over 1,000 American Servicemen lost their lives in the Exercise Tiger tragedy. The team at Exercise Tiger Remembered are planning a small memorial service to mark this day and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The small outdoor service at the Tank Memorial in Torcross will be led by Reverend Peter Williamson. Local schools will be invited to attend the service along with members of local Armed Forces Associations and the general public. A display of WWII vehicles will be located in the car park for visitors to view
The schools will be asked to submit readings and poems for inclusion in the 45 minute service and also asked to lay wreaths at the tank. It is also hoped that copies of the pupils’ work will be sent to the US veteran’s in America.
